Repurposing Glass Wine Bottles: Eco-Hack #001

Repurposing Glass Wine Bottles: Eco-Hack #001

Ever kick yourself in the butt because you had an empty glass bottle that you didn’t want to throw away? Yeah, me too!

Here’s something you probably never thought about: repurposing glass bottles into plant watering globes!

Here is an empty wine bottle that now feeds my thriving indoor plant:

Since this photo, I have removed the labels of the wine distributor. But just the simplicity of this hack is one for the books!!

How it works:

By plunging the opening of the bottle into the soil, it “plugs” the bottle until the plant draws moisture from it.

The neck of the bottle not only allows for a sealing motion from the soil, but allows for it to stand up in the pot like a watering globe.

The plant will draw what moisture it needs from the soil, and overtime you’ll see the water dissipate from the glass!

Make sure that the water is not rapidly falling out of the glass, or else your seal has not been properly set and your plant will drown!!

What I think of when I say “watering globe”, as the distant memory of the “as seen on tv” commercials flicker through my brain:

I have yet to try other shapes of glass bottles to this ingenious hack, so I do not know if they still work the way it should! If you have tried this hack with other bottles, please comment below your results!

Why you should use this on all your indoor plants:

I started using this as a way to incorporate zero-waste into my life. But not only did it keep perfectly good items out of the trash, it also drastically improved the overall look and health of my plant!

I will admit, my watering schedule of any indoor plant has been a juggling act for me. Too little, too much, too much to handle for a plant that has ultimately died on my watch… Not the plant parent I want, or anyone really, wants to be! But since adding this watering-globe-bottle into the equation, the leaves have perked and my worries have subsided!

As stated before, the plant will take what it needs when it needs it. Just providing a way to get water solves all of your problems!
