Reseller’s Toolkit #002: Fabric Defuzzers/Shavers

Reseller’s Toolkit #002: Fabric Defuzzers/Shavers
Me, Kaitlyn, and my handheld shaver of happiness.

The epitome of “well worn” to me is seeing pills of fabric on any kind of garment of clothing or blankets/sheets.

It shows that although this item may not be old, it has been used and reused over and over again.

It does not, in any way, mean that it’s not usable any further, or that it’s undesirable.

It simply means the item has had a good life, and like any “ol’-worn-out thing”, it needs some TLC to get back to looking fresh!

Just think of it like buying a used car, everything needs a good cleaning before going out to the lot!

The same idea applies to picking up clothing from the thrift that has fabric pilling, it just needs some TLC before it can be resold.

If there are no holes, stains, or worn-through spots, then it’s sellable and profitable!

Read on to see why I love my fabric shaver, and why you should invest in one for yourself and your reselling business:

Why to Invest in a Fabric Shaver:

I would venture to say that at least 75% of resellers today have a fabric shaver that they use regularly. As most experienced resellers would know, sometimes you don’t see the true quality of the clothing you buy to resell until you purchase an item. It happens all too frequently for lots of people. So, having that tool that you can quickly shave off unwanted pilling is super perfect for all resellers alike.

It’s a practical tool with universal uses around the house. Got some sheets that need some cleaning? Your favorite pair of sweatpants or leggings have some pilling from friction? Have a fabric couch that needs some love? The possibilities are always there! If you’re moving, your making fabric pilling one way, or another. Help revitalize all items around your house, and invest in a fabric shaver so your items look new for longer. Remember, it’s had a good life, it needs some love to look great again!

More clothing saved from landfills, more money in your pockets. Remember that designer brand sweater you wanted to pick up for $4 but it had too much “wear” on it? It’s currently cursing you from a pile of trash because you didn’t feel like you wanted to clean it and resell it… A little pilling on items does not kill their value, but just requires more “sweat equity” from the seller. Get your arms moving and shave more clothing, because there is no true reason any clothing should end up in piles of trash in this day and age. Plus, you know that when you put effort in, you’ll get rewarded in the end. Polish that piece of coal until it shines like a diamond!

They’re a cheap, one time investment! I’ve had my current shaver for almost a year with flawless use and application. Before that, I was using one that I found in the junk-drawer of my parent’s house. (Which means the likelihood of it being older than me is high, and I’m 21). After all sitting in the drawer, not being used, that old shaver just needed some fresh batteries and it was ready to work! They’re really easy to use, and when you take proper care of them, they’ll last generations!

How to De-Lint/Shave/Defuzz Fabric:

  1. Lay your item down on a flat surface, with the target area facing up.
  2. Turn on your shaver, and gently work it around the target area. Back and forth, up and down, and in circles.
  3. Watch in amazement as all imperfects diminish, and then turn it off when you see no more flaws!

Super easy!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This shaver is perfect for my needs because:

  • The intake shaver head is large, and takes off a lot in little time.
  • It’s battery operated, and lasts a long time!
  • There are 3 different shaver settings for how thick the fabric is, or how close you want the blades to the head of the shaver.
  • The lint-catcher is big and easy to dispose of.
  • The price is perfect for my budget.
  • The handle is easy to hold, and doesn’t hurt after many pieces of clothing.
  • Has never taken a “bite” out of my fabrics! (Cut a hole)

Have I convinced you to invest in your favorite cleaning/salvaging tool? I hope so! If you’re not ready to invest in this neat gadget, no worries! Here’s a small bonus hack that only uses one small household item:

Shave imperfections off your clothes with your razor!

Yes, the one you shave your body with! It can also be used to shave unwanted flaws off of fabric!

Erase knicks and pilling in clothing by dragging the razor up and down the fabric, but be careful not to do it too hard. Also, make sure you’re on a flat surface, or else you might create a hole on the fabric.

Super convenient for quick flaw-fixes in a rush!

Do not recommend this method on chunky-knit fabrics.

I hope that whatever method you chose from the ones explained above, that you’ll give more clothing items another chance to come home with you to be resold or worn. So many perfectly good items live at thrift stores, and all they truly need is some proper maintenance.

Until next time, thank you for reading my tips and advice. Much love and take care. -Kaitlyn ❤️
