Healing Your Inner Energy: Crystals and Healing Jewelry

Healing Your Inner Energy: Crystals and Healing Jewelry

For about a year now, I have been a fan of the unorthodox method of using natural rocks, crystals, and minerals to heal the body mentally, physically, and spiritually.

This started as most things do, with a simple Instagram recommendation and a few Pinterest searches later, and I was hooked.

The simple, yet complex, idea of healing oneself by using crystal energy was fascinating to me. I do not completely understand it, nor claim to, but it is something that I believe in that doesn’t hurt others.

I had been deeply enjoying the circulatory benefits of yoga and meditation, as they both steered my mind away from anxiety-riddled irrational thoughts while teaching me to focus on my inner-self. To ground oneself, if you will.

I had found this same comfort in the simple integration of crystals into my daily life. Not only are they gorgeous to look at, but they can provide certain relief or comfort as the owner sees fit. The energy that the crystals absorb or release is determined by the owner, and having that control over a meditative item was empowering to me.

The idea that if I share the good or bad energies that had been plaguing me for months to a physical object, and essentially letting that energy go, was immensely healing to me. I relished in learning the crystals, their benefits, and their purposes. It was another way I was able to look into myself comfortably.

This post is a more opinionated piece of my experiences with crystal healing, along with some advice to beginners that want to learn more about this natural way of healing your inner energy.

Healing Crystals and Crystal Jewelry: My Story

Here’s me, Kaitlyn, the writer of these posts and creator of Revive Me Shop, in case you need a visual reference.

I’m an almost-finished college student, with character-developing anxiety and various other problems.

During the Summer of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I lost two very important souls to my family, (both elderly in age) and that mentally impacted me for over a year, proving to make my life a terror to live through.

I couldn’t leave the house, couldn’t ride in a moving car, couldn’t get out of my head for months without getting anxious and making myself physically ill.

I felt foreign to everything in my life, and although any manifestation of grief is normal, I felt less than all the time.

With counseling, I worked on opening myself up to the world again. It took lots of time, lots of “shaky hands”, and lots of churning tummies, but I worked and worked until I worked for myself again.

Halfway through my progress, I discovered healing crystals. I did not understand how they worked. I did not understand the shapes or types. I did not understand all the hype. But I thought to myself, “What will it hurt? It can’t make me any worse than I am right now.” And I bought my first starter set online.

Once I received my crystals, which was this set from LillaDesigns on Etsy: Beginner Crystal Kit , I used my online resources to better understand how to use each crystal to benefit my energy. This kit includes: Selenite, Amethyst, Sodalite, Amazonite, Green Aventurine, Yellow Calcite, Tiger’s Eye, Red Jasper, and Rose Quartz. I chose this kit as it is a great basic kit and allowed me a smooth introduction to this world of energy healing.

Each crystal has its own healing properties, along with intentions for the user to imbue it with. When I was working on my daily yoga in-between zoom classes, I was meditating with these crystals near or on my body in some way, shape, or form. I used the reference sheet that came along with the kit to “think the energy” in and out of my body.

It’s a more complex form of envisioning air entering your body, and exiting through a fart.

It may seem silly, but that’s essentially what meditating with these crystals in. wishing good energies in, and expelling bad energies out.

I eventually rediscovered a local small business that sold these crystals, and with their knowledge and guidance I was able to pick out more crystals to help me on my healing journey. This is what introduced me to healing jewelry, as they provided many magnetic and crystal jewelry pieces for me to choose from.

I used my intuition a.k.a. gut feeling to pick out three pieces, Green Aventurine, Tiger’s Eye, and Pink/Green and Black Tourmaline to wear to help me with my driving anxiety.

At this point in my journey, I was able to drive out of the house all by myself, but I was struggling with keeping calm and not freaking out while in public. Using my jewelry along with other crystals and counseling, I got better.

It took over a year to gain back most of my freedom, and I do still have days where it’s bad. But I’ve grown as a person and as a crystal user to adapt to my anxiety and calm it before it gets to control me.

If I feel that I need some extra strength, I wear my jewelry and I keep a selenite chakra stick in my car. Again, it took me a long time to get where I am today, but I am so proud of my progress, and I still advocate for crystal use and still have my collection scattered around my apartment for “good vibes”, if you will.

And I’ve never looked back since.

My mindset still gravitates towards the crystals as everyone has to believe in something these days, I guess? But I do not force this onto anyone without consent of more information. I simply introduce the idea to people, and let them choose to judge or be inspired. (I’m really trying to avoid the preaching-relatives I grew up with).

If you are inspired by my story, I have some great tips to get started to read about below.

And as always, thank you for sparing a few moments to give to my story. ❤️ I’m grateful for any and all efforts I get to share my experiences with others.

How to Start Integrating Crystals in Your Everyday Life:

1. Do some research.

Before spending money on crystals that may be fake, make sure you do some basic research on which crystals you should start out with, along with what genuine crystals look like, the appearance and shape of each crystal and what that may mean, and find a reliable source that has great reviews to buy your first crystals from.

I used Pinterest and Google to research many different types of crystals before I considered purchasing my first pieces. Do your own research, maybe even look into crystal books like The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall, anything to help you learn the basics on crystals and how to use them to cleanse your energy.

After you understand the whole crystal world a bit clearer, now comes the fun part: picking out the crystals.

Using your intuition, gut feeling, choose what calls to you, and grabs your attention.

Sometimes the prices can be hard to stomach, but find crystals in your price range and let them simmer in your thoughts.

With in-person shopping, you may need to touch the crystal and then set it down, and if it still holds your attention after, then you probably have a good connection to its inner energy. As per the lovely business owner I was talking with during my crystal explorative-phase, “I wish I could just give everyone a crystal that could help them, but that’s not how it works. You have to feel it, and choose it on your own.”

With online shopping, I tend to utilize the “favorites” or “shopping list” features, to which I can have the items in my “potential picks” and let the idea resonate with me, or not, to where I choose to buy it or not.

Just like picking out a bouquet of flowers, or anything that you have-to-have to decorate your home, the crystals will resonate with you if they are meant for you at this time. You pick them, and they pick you.

Again, some of the better pieces to begin with are: Selenite, Amethyst, Sodalite, Amazonite, Green Aventurine, Yellow Calcite, Tiger’s Eye, Red Jasper, and Rose Quartz.

Each different crystal has different healing properties, so doing your research is critical when finding what you need! You could go into a store and see what “speaks” to you, but the above crystals are more common staple-pieces that are more consistent with people just starting out with crystals.

Or at the very least, you could find a chakra piece with all elements of your chakra incorporated. (Do the research, and you’ll learn why aligning your chakras are so important!)

Crystal maintenance is just as important as working with the crystals to eliminate bad energy.

Just having them sitting in your space won’t help dissipate your negative energy, they need to be touched, held, or worn to properly work.

The same goes for maintaining their internal energy and dissipating the negative energy.

This concept was tough for me to fully understand and learn, but I’ll give you the most simple ways of cleansing and charging your crystals.

To cleanse:

There are many ways, but certain crystals require different elements. If you want a universal way to cleanse all of your crystals, use a sage stick to smudge the crystals with smoke. This also helps to “program” your crystals by setting your intentions for each crystal, by allowing all negative energies to leave as only positive energies enter.

Generally when I cleanse with my sage, I say this as I waft each crystal over the smoke for a few seconds: “I cleanse all the bad energies from this crystal, and only allow positive energies to enter.”

Blue Apatite and Sage stick, with a small amount of smoke to smudge.

Do your research and find the best solution that you are most comfortable with doing. Cleansing is apart of crystal upkeep, so cleansing can come as immediately as every-other-day, and as far out as months apart. It’s all up to you and how the crystal feels to you. If it feels heavy with energy, it is probably time to cleanse it.

To charge:

My prefered choice is by moonlight, but you can also charge crystals with sunlight, earth, or even with other crystals.

Each way of charging has its own benefit and different feeling to the energy provided to the crystals. Again, researching and finding a method that you are comfortable with is the most important thing to do.

Selenite is a great starter-crystal because it has the ability to charge many other crystals, as an universal crystal!

Using daylight or burying your crystals in the dirt of the earth are also some other popular methods, but knowing the risks of maintaining the integrity of the physical appearance of the crystals needs to be taken into account before. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!

Use them when you need them.

Keep them under your pillow, wear them on your wrist, neck, or fingers, put them in your car, sit them in your living room, anywhere where you need them. They only work when you work with them, and using them where you need them is just as important.

Crystals may seem weird to some, but it’s the 21st century, and no one can judge you on liking some shiny rocks. Just rock those rocks!

On nervous days, I wear my jewelry. I keep my selenite chakra stick in my car, while all of my other crystals are spread out among my living room and bedroom.

Using them to balance your energies is normal, no matter in public or private, they are there to help better improve your inner energies.

Need more self-love? Grab your Rose Quartz and put it near your heart. Less anxious feelings? Lapis Lazuli or Black Tourmaline to sooth. Need good luck and more confidence? Tiger’s Eye and Green Adventurine are a perfect pair. No matter what you need help with, there is a crystal to help! (And if you’re worried about looking/sounding weird, the essential oil people are doing the same thing and have been getting succeeding with it for years!) Own your methods!

Again, we are all allowed to believe in what we wish, and as long as you are not hurting yourself or others, these methods are perfectly allowed, I promise.
